WhatsApp is still the most popular Android messaging and voice calling app, especially in international markets. However, it normally needs to be connected to your SIM card number on your phone to work. Thankfully, there are at least two ways to use WhatsApp without a SIM card.
Obviously, both of these methods require you to download WhatsApp to your device, either through the Google Play Store or directly from the app’s official website. If you select the second method, be sure to enter the phone’s settings, select the Applications section, and then select the Unknown sources option.
How to use WhatsApp without SIM card
The fixed method
This first method is also the simplest, but you need a landline or some kind of home phone number. First open WhatsApp, select your home country and then enter your fixed number when prompted. Then wait for the default SMS verification process to fail, which can take up to 5 minutes. After that, press “call me” in the app and then answer the call to your landline. You then need to remember the verification code that the automatic voice gives you on your phone. Just enter that code in the app, and you’re done.
TextNow method
This second method requires the use of a third-party app, TextNow, which can be downloaded to your device through the Google Play Store.
When done, open the app to start the installation process. You should find a way to remember the number provided by the app when the installation process is complete. Then open WhatsApp, select your home country as before and enter the number you received from the TextNow app. Then you have to wait for the SMS verification process to fail, and when it does, press “call me” in the app. You should then go back and open the TextNow app again and answer that call, and again you need to remember the automatically generated verification code.
Finally, go back to WhatsApp, enter the code in the app and you should have that app running.
As you can see, both of these methods should make it possible to use WhatsApp without a SIM card.
